Two planets, revolving around each other, were necessary to each other's survival. The tribal race of Datarii on Dreida and the technological race of Tentarrin on Zalan offered their culture and technology to each other. The only way the planets were connected was through a long, tube-like warp in space and time called the Tunnel, which ended on either side in gates that lead between the two planets.
As time progressed, the two races went beyond technology and advanced to using Synergy. This Synergy was used through the channeling of elements through a person's body. Synergy was far better then using big resource-wasting machines, so the Datarii and Tentarrin quickly stopped using technology and used Synergy all the time to solve their problems. But, Synergy has a downside as well. It drained away the energy of its user. It was parasitic and addictive.
People all over the two planets starting abusing Synergy like a drug. On Zalan, a group of power-insane, yet talented Synergy users, calling themselves Synergists, created a corrupt society where everyone else had to depend on the Synergists to survive. The Synergists were very powerful, and hunted down anyone they could find that had a talent for using Synergy well so that they could join the Synergist army. The Datarii on Dreida, who helped teach the Tentarrin how to use Synergy in the beginning, were affected by Synergy as well. Clans split up, and the world of Dreida went back to a primitive war-like civilization.
The people eventually forgot how to use the Tunnel, all except for a handful who preserved the past. Most of the people of the two races thought they could live quite well without the help of each other. Life continued in this plunge toward darkness for a long time. Four hundred and thirty-nine years later, this story begins.
On both planets, only a few groups of people avoided this corruption. Dareo Tenakh, a wandering teenager, is being hunted by the Synergists on Zalan. To save what little of both planets is still good, she must join the few young renegades that will help her and unleash the hidden powers of Complitice. Complitice is beyond Synergy, because it is the power of will. Her power over Complitice is why she is hunted.
Thus, the struggle of reason versus addiction begins.
